Kenya Navy FC, a Division One side, has wrapped up their most impressive campaign in the league’s history with a strong second-leg performance that currently sees them sitting fourth on the log with one game to play. The team, under the guidance of head coach Mohamed Rio, began the season with mixed results—winning five, drawing five, and losing five in the first leg. However, a dramatic turnaround in the second leg saw them win seven matches, draw two, and lose just two, marking a historic run for the military-backed club.

To celebrate the milestone, the club held a glamorous End-of-Season Dinner Gala on Tuesday, May 13th, where they hosted top Football Kenya Federation (FKF) officials. Among those present were FKF Mombasa Branch Chairman Al Amin Abdalla, Vice Chairperson Betty Kerubo, Secretary General Stephen Murithi, and FKF Kwale Branch Chairman Hamisi Mwakoja.

Chairman Speaks: A Season to Remember

Kenya Navy FC Chairman, Major Michael Omutsa, hailed the season as a success, noting that the team met their pre-season target.
“Finishing fourth is a great achievement. We had set a target of making it to the top five, and I thank the technical bench, the players, and everyone who made this possible. Our goal next season is clear—we want to earn promotion to the National Super League,” he said.

He went on to thank the Kenya Defense Forces and particularly the Kenya Navy leadership for their unwavering support.
“The support from the Commander, Major General Paul Otieno, and the entire Kenya Navy leadership has been incredible. The team never lacked anything,” he added.

CEO Reflects on Club Growth and Future Ambitions

Club CEO Major Cliff Apiyo took pride in the steady progress of Kenya Navy FC, having been part of the journey since the club entered the FKF leagues in 2019.
“We joined the regional league in 2019 and have been growing gradually since then. We are fortunate to engage with communities and potential sponsors, and we aim to form strong partnerships moving forward,” he said.

On the inclusion of civilian players, Major Apiyo emphasized the importance of talent and discipline.
“We value talent, but discipline is key—especially in a military environment. The civilians we’ve brought in have been exceptional, with no disciplinary issues, and they’ve significantly contributed to the team’s success,” he noted.

He also confirmed that all players have contracts and are covered medically, with civilians receiving a token of appreciation for their contributions.

Coach Rio”: Redemption and Resilience

Head Coach Mohamed Rio expressed gratitude for achieving the club’s goal despite a slow start to the season.
“We started poorly, but mid-season signings helped us turn things around. We aimed for a top-five finish, and we made it,” said Rio.

He also raised concerns regarding league officiating and decision delays by FKF.
“Many teams have complained about officiating, especially in away matches. The federation needs to improve this and give verdicts on time; waiting for over a month is not ideal,” he added.

FKF Officials Pledge Continued Support

All FKF representatives present at the gala assured Kenya Navy FC of their full support in the upcoming season. With the team’s performance and growing reputation, there is a renewed sense of optimism that a promotion to the National Super League is within reach.

As the 2024/2025 season draws to a close, Kenya Navy FC has not only made history on the pitch but also off it—demonstrating what determination, structure, and community collaboration can achieve in Kenyan football.
