  • “We made a promise just last week, to find a suitable location for the construction of a Gor Mahia stadium. Today, we’re here turning that promise into action,” said Mr. Owalo, setting the tone for a project that blends vision with urgency.
  • “This site’s proximity to Nairobi makes it ideal. It’s accessible no matter how fans travel—by car, bus, or even by foot if they’re as passionate as we know they are,” Mr. Owalo added, highlighting Lukenya’s strategic location.

Beneath the clear morning skies of Lukenya, a short distance from Daystar University, Gor Mahia Football Club marked a significant milestone in its pursuit of a future as bright as its storied past. Leading this landmark initiative was Deputy Patron Mr. Eliud Owalo, whose visionary leadership has breathed new life into the club’s long-standing ambition of owning a world-class home.

In a high-level site visit attended by the club’s top brass, Mr. Owalo and the Gor Mahia leadership assessed a 48-acre parcel of land—earmarked for what promises to be the most ambitious sports development project in the club’s history.

“We made a promise just last week, to find a suitable location for the construction of a Gor Mahia stadium. Today, we’re here turning that promise into action,” said Mr. Owalo, setting the tone for a project that blends vision with urgency.

At the heart of this bold plan is a proposed 60,000-seat stadium—a future fortress for the K’Ogalo faithful. But the project goes beyond just a stadium. The envisioned sports complex will include three dedicated training grounds for the senior team, youth academy, and Gor Mahia Queens, complete with on-site accommodation for players. Fans and guests alike can look forward to a 4-star hotel, modern gym and indoor gymnasium, and cutting-edge recovery facilities featuring saunas and swimming pools.

The facility will also house club offices, a fully equipped media center, a Gor Mahia merchandise megastore, retail outlets, washrooms, and ample parking—all aimed at transforming Gor Mahia into a continental football powerhouse.

Gor Mahia Chairman Ambrose Rachier emphasized the gravity of the moment. “We just pray that God gives us the wisdom and ability to do the construction that we intend to do,” he said.

Joining Mr. Owalo and Mr. Rachier at the landmark visit were Vice Chairperson Sally Bollo, Secretary General Nicanor Arum, and Treasurer Gerphas Okuku—all visibly moved by the potential unfolding before them.

For a club that has long dominated Kenyan football but operated without permanent facilities of its own, the Lukenya complex represents more than bricks and mortar. It is a statement of intent, a declaration that Gor Mahia is ready to rise to a new level—on and off the pitch.
