Ulinzi Stars have bolstered their attacking department with the acquisition of seasoned forward Meshack Karani Makokha from FKF Premier League side Mara Sugar FC.
Karani, whose career has seen him play for multiple clubs in Kenyan football, has signed for the military side after impressing at Mara Sugar. During his initial spell in the Kenyan Premier League, he featured for clubs such as Kakamega Homeboyz, Sofapaka, Bandari, Chemelil Sugar, Sony Sugar, Mathare United, Vihiga United, and Nakumatt. He also had a stint with Kariobangi Sharks in the FKF National Super League. However, he faded from the spotlight before making a remarkable comeback last season.
His resurgence began with fourth-tier side Bungoma Stars during the Mozzart Bet Cup, where he played a pivotal role in their giant-killing run. Karani scored crucial goals that helped the team eliminate FKF Premier League sides Bandari FC and FC Talanta before they were knocked out by Sofapaka in a penalty shootout. His standout performances earned him a move to Mara Sugar FC, where he has netted three league goals this season.
Ulinzi Stars, currently struggling for goals, will be hoping Karani’s experience and goal-scoring ability can provide a much-needed boost. The Soldiers have found the back of the net just 14 times in 18 matches, contributing to an inconsistent campaign that sees them placed 12th on the FKF Premier League table with 22 points. They have registered five wins, seven draws, and six losses so far.
Karani’s arrival comes at a crucial time as Ulinzi Stars seek to turn around their fortunes in the second half of the season. With his proven ability to perform under pressure, the forward will be expected to add firepower to the squad and help the military side climb up the league standings.
