Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Head of Communication, Media & PR, Jeff Kinyanjui, has taken up a role as a CAF Media Officer at the ongoing CAF U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Morocco. Kinyanjui is overseeing media operations for Group C in the competition, bringing his expertise to the continental stage.
From Local Success to Continental Recognition
A former sports journalist at Nation Sport, Kinyanjui was appointed to head FKF’s communication docket following last year’s FKF elections. The elections ushered in a new leadership led by FKF President Hussein Mohamed and his deputy MacDonald Mariga, replacing the previous administration of Nick Mwendwa and Doris Petra.
Since assuming office, Kinyanjui has played a pivotal role in key football events in Kenya. Some of his first major assignments included:
- Overseeing the CHAN Draw at KICC – In collaboration with CAF, Kinyanjui played a key facilitative role in organizing the event, ensuring its successful execution as part of Kenya’s hosting responsibilities.
- Marketing Kenya’s First Home Match in Two Years – He led the promotional campaign for the Harambee Stars vs. Gabon match at Nyayo Stadium, significantly contributing to the successful turnout of a fully packed venue.
- Promoting the Mashemeji Derby – Kinyanjui played a crucial role in the marketing campaign for the highly anticipated Mashemeji Derby clash on March 30, drawing a massive crowd to the stadium.
Key Role in CAF U17 AFCON
Following these successes, Kinyanjui has now taken on a bigger challenge in Morocco, where he is responsible for media coordination in Group C of the TotalEnergies CAF U17 AFCON. His duties include liaising with team media officers and journalists to facilitate smooth media coverage, moderating pre-match and post-match press conferences, and ensuring the dissemination of relevant tournament information.
Speaking about his role, Kinyanjui emphasized the importance of learning from the experience to enhance media operations in Kenya ahead of upcoming international tournaments. “My most important goal here is to learn and make our media operations back at home better ahead of CHAN and AFCON,” he stated. Kenya is set to co-host the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in August 2025 and will co-host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027 alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

Kinyanjui has already moderated his first press conferences at the tournament, overseeing pre-match media sessions for Group C teams—Senegal, The Gambia, Tunisia, and Somalia. The Senegal vs. The Gambia match is scheduled for April 1, 2025, at 17:00 EAT at Stade El Abdi in El Jadida, Morocco, followed by the Tunisia vs. Somalia clash at 20:00 EAT at the same venue.
A Stepping Stone for Kenya’s Football Media
His experience at the tournament is expected to bolster FKF’s preparations for hosting CHAN and AFCON, ensuring that Kenya delivers world-class football events in the coming years.
With a growing reputation for executing successful media operations, Kinyanjui’s journey is a testament to Kenya’s evolving football landscape, both on and off the pitch.
