Ryan Ogam remains at the summit of the FKF Premier League Golden Boot race with 15 goals, but his grip on the top scorer’s title is beginning to loosen. The Tusker FC striker has not found the back of the net since January 19th, and his absence from the pitch has raised eyebrows. Ogam has been sidelined by the club for an extended period, with speculation linking his omission to two failed transfer moves that Tusker allegedly rejected.
Failed Transfers and Club Standoff
According to Mozzart Sport Kenya, Ogam was on the verge of sealing a move to Swedish side Östersunds FK. The Swedish outfit reportedly proposed a deal that included a 40% sell-on clause but no upfront transfer fee. Tusker FC swiftly rejected the offer, countering with a demand for €100,000 (approximately 14 million Ksh) and a 30% sell-on clause. Östersunds FK declined Tusker’s terms, and the deal collapsed.
Earlier, Ogam was linked with a move to Algeria’s USM Alger before the January 31, 2025 deadline. Despite the club’s willingness to trigger his $30,000 release clause, Tusker refused to release their top scorer, further fueling speculation about their reluctance to part ways with their prized asset.
International Duty Fallout?
Compounding matters, Ogam honored a national team call-up for Kenya’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Gambia and Gabon. Tusker had requested the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to retain their players for a weekend league match before releasing them for international duty, but Ogam still reported for training with Harambee Stars. His decision to prioritize national duty may have contributed to his continued absence from club action. His last appearance for Tusker came on February 26, 2025, against Shabana FC.
Golden Boot Race Heats Up
With Ogam stuck on 15 goals, his competitors are closing in fast. Kakamega Homeboyz forward Moses Shumah is just two goals behind and gaining momentum. Meanwhile, Beja Nyamawi and Emmanuel Osoro are also in the mix with 11 goals each, keeping the competition fierce. Francis Kahiro is also in the elite club of double-digit scorers, ensuring that the Golden Boot race remains unpredictable.
With Ogam’s future at Tusker uncertain and his playing time limited, the Golden Boot battle is far from over. Can he hold onto his lead, or will his challengers seize the moment? The race is wide open, and the coming weeks will determine who truly wants it more.
