Zetech Sparks were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw in a thrilling FKF Women’s Premier League clash against Kisumu All Starlets at the Imani Grounds. Both teams battled fiercely, with the game delivering late drama.
The opening exchanges were evenly contested, with both teams cautious not to leave gaps at the back. Kisumu All Starlets, however, took the lead in the 40th minute after a costly error by Zetech’s goalkeeper Vivian Awino. Daisy Sitei’s powerful shot was fumbled by Awino, allowing Faith Ogeda to pounce and slot home from close range. The visitors went into halftime with a slender 1-0 lead.
The second half saw Kisumu All-Starlets maintain their dominance early on. They nearly doubled their advantage, but Vivian Awino redeemed herself with a crucial save. The visitors made an attacking substitution, introducing Rosemary Oraro for Pauline Nafula, while defensively nullifying the threat of Zetech’s forwards Beverline Adika and Violet Akinyi.
However, a tactical change by Zetech Sparks swung the momentum. Winger Faith Muli was replaced by central midfielder Judith Adhiambo, whose work rate and energy invigorated the home side. Zetech found their rhythm and were rewarded in the 76th minute when Monalizer Owenga rose highest to head in the equalizer from a corner, sending the home fans into jubilation.
Zetech capitalized on their newfound momentum six minutes later, with Monalizer once again delivering a perfectly timed header from another corner to put the hosts ahead for the first time in the match.
Just when it seemed Zetech might secure the win, Kisumu All Starlets produced a moment of brilliance. Cynthia Akinyi unleashed a stunning long-range strike from near the halfway line in the 86th minute, catching everyone off guard and leveling the match.
